KENNESAW, Ga. – Four unanswered runs for Kennesaw State baseball (23-24, 12-12 ASUN Conference) propelled the Owls past Georgia Tech (28-20, 10-14 Atlantic Coast Conference) 6-5 inside Stillwell Stadium Wednesday.
KSU was led by
Brayden Eidson offensively who produced a 2-for-2 day at the plate with three runs scored, two RBI and two walks.
Eidson and
Zac Corbin led off the Owls' opening inning at the plate with back-to-back doubles to put two in scoring position for
Spencer Hanson.
Hanson grounded out to short to send Eidson home and give the Owls a 1-0 lead early.
In the next at-bat
Donovan Cash sent a hot shot to the left side to increase the lead to 2-0.
After three scoreless innings by both squads, Tech scored in the top of the fifth to take a 5-2 lead.
With
Wade Richardson on base in the bottom of the fifth, Eidson launched a no-doubter to right to cut the deficit to 5-4. It was his fourth homer of the season and the seventh of his Owl career.
A single from
Nick Hassan in the bottom of the sixth tied the game after Cash crossed home.
In the next inning for the Owls,
Spencer Hanson slapped one into center to score Eidson return the lead to Kennesaw State, 6-5.
Wednesday's contest was not short on incredible defensive plays by the Owls, including a ridiculous throw from
Hudson Mimbs to Cash to close out the Tech half of the eighth.
Blake Aita earned the last three outs for the Black and Gold to secure the win and his third save of the 2023 campaign.
Nolan Sliver (2-2) entered in relief in the fifth inning and tallied 2.2 innings pitched allowing zero earned runs and earned the victory on the mound.
The win was the ninth for Kennesaw State all-time against the in-state foe and first since Mar. 23, 2022.
