Shorthanded Owls down Undefeated Bellarmine
Â
KENNESAW, Ga - The Kennesaw State men's tennis team added another conference victory to their record with a 4-3 win over Bellarmine on The Betty Siegel Courts Thursday afternoon.
Â
The Owls clinched the doubles point with victories on lines one and two.
Â
Hugo Salmeron earned KSU their first singles point after taking down Matthew Nice 6-0, 6-1. Seru Tezuka then gave the Owls a 3-1 lead with his 6-4, 7-5 sweep over Kyle Tang. Bellarmine got the score within one after a victory on line four. Anthony Weingarten clinched the win for the home team, triumphing over Paul Reynolds 6-1, 2-6, 6-2! David Leon fought hard but fell to Vineet Ramesh 6-2, 2-6, 6(5)-7.Â
Â
"Obviously, playing without our two captains and top two singles players was going to be a challenge, but the boys were up for it. Hugo did a great job of leading us at the no. 1 spot and Anthony has been lights out all year in clinch situations," Director of Tennis Matt Emery said. "I'm excited to see what this team can do these next couple of weeks now that we are having fun competing again."
Â
The Owls regular season play will wrap up against Eastern Kentucky University on Saturday, April 8 on the Betty Siegel Courts at 2 p.m. The Owls will celebrate seniors Seru Tezuka and Kenneth Limyadi before the match.
