KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State baseball fell to Austin Peay by a score of 6-2 on Thursday night inside Stillwell Stadium. The loss drops the Owls to 13-15 (5-5 ASUN Conference) while the Governors improve to 14-16 (6-4 ASUN).
Tomorrow's game has been moved to a 1:00 p.m. start time due to inclement weather. A doubleheader could occur, depending on the weather forecast in the afternoon.
Blake Wehunt (3-3) made his eighth start and tossed six innings. The junior allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits. He also punched out six batters to bring his season total to 47, which ranks first on the team.
Nolan Sliver tossed the final three innings out of the KSU bullpen and tallied two strikeouts.
The Kennesaw State offense collected five hits and was led by
Donovan Cash who was the lone Owl in the multi-hit category. The first baseman finished 2-for-4 with a double and RBI.
Other notables for the offense included
Nick Colina (1-for-3, run scored),
Mason Jones (1-for-2, walk) and
Wade Richardson (1-for-3, walk).
Austin Peay scored one run in the first to take an early lead, but Cash tied the score with a two-out double in the bottom of the frame. Colina worked a walk to get on board and scored from first on Cash's fourth two-bagger of the year.
The Governors regained the lead with a two-run homer in the fifth. The visitors added two more in the seventh and one in the ninth to extend their lead to 6-1.
In the ninth,
Brayden Eidson worked a bases-loaded walk that brought the tying run to the plate with two outs. APSU closed the game with a ground out to first that gave them the 6-2 win.
