KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State baseball belted three home runs to pick up a huge 8-2 victory over Jacksonville on Friday night inside Stillwell Stadium. With the win, the Owls (20-20, 10-9 ASUN Conference) move into a tie with the Dolphins (25-16, 10-9 ASUN) in the ASUN Conference standings.
Blake Wehunt (4-3) posted his sixth quality start of the year and tossed 6.0 innings. The junior right-hander tied a career high with nine strikeouts and allowed only two runs.
Blake Aita entered in relief and tossed the final three innings to earn his second save. The right hander allowed two hits and struck out four.
The KSU offense tallied 11 hits and had seven-of-nine starters record a knock. The team was led by Donovan Cash, Spencer Hanson, Nick Hassan, and Hudson Mimbs who each had two hits apiece.
Cash added a 2-for-3 performance with a two-run homer and a hit-by-pitch. The deep fly was the eighth of the year for the first baseman which ties him for the team lead.
Hassan ended the night 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. The Owls' catcher also belted a double and scored one run in the victory.
Hanson collected his 11th multi-hit game of the year with a 2-for-4 evening at the plate. The designated hitter also scored two runs in the win.
Mimbs slashed an RBI double in the eighth inning en route to a 2-for-4 evening. The third baseman has now registered two-or-more hits in eight games this year. He also scored one run in the contest.
Nick Colina finished 1-for-4 but his lone hit was a solo shot to right field. This was the fifth of the season for the senior from Dallas, Ga.
KSU collected four runs in the second inning after registering four base knocks and two that went for extra bases.
Hassan got the Owls on the scoreboard with a two-run blast. The deep fly was the second of the year for the KSU catcher and fourth of his career.
Eidson drove in the final two runs of the frame with a two-out double that was just out of reach of the diving outfielder. This put Kennesaw State ahead, 4-0.
The Owls blasted two more home runs in the third inning courtesy of Colina and Cash. The two long balls combined to plate three Kennesaw State runs and increased the Owls' advantage to 7-0.
Jacksonville chipped away at the Owls' lead with two runs in the fifth. The Dolphins put together three hits in the frame and cut the deficit to 7-2.
Mimbs doubled in the eighth to bring home a run and extend the Owls lead to 8-2 which held as the final.
