KENNESAW, Ga. – Malik Hussie, Tyriq Hussie and Isaiah Rogers were named to the ASUN Indoor Men's All-Academic Team while Sarah Hendrick was named to the ASUN Women's Indoor All-Academic Team, the conference announced Thursday.
Malik Hussie carries a 3.73 GPA while majoring in management. He won the 400m at the Rod McCravy Memorial with a time of 47.95 seconds and was a member of the Owls 4x400m relay team that broke the school record with a time of 3:11.42 at the Bob Pollock Meet. He finished fifth in the 200m in a time of 21.78 seconds at the Doc Hale VT Elite Meet. The Newnan, Ga. native secured the bronze medal at the ASUN Indoor Championships in the 200m (21.32 seconds and 47.86 seconds). Both of those times ranked third in the ASUN this indoor season. His time of 47.86 seconds established a new KSU school record. He was on the KSU 4x400m relay team that won the gold with a time of 3:12.59 which ranks second in ASUN Championship history. This is his second ASUN Indoor All-Academic Team Selection.
Tyriq Hussie has a 3.6 GPA in sport management. He finished fourth in the 60m (6.85 seconds) and second in the 400m (48.52 seconds) at the Rod McCravy Memorial. He was on the KSU 4x400m relay team that broke the school record with a time of 3:11.42 at the Bob Pollock Meet. Hussie also secured third in the 400m and second in the 200m at the Doc Hale VT Meet. He finished fourth in the 60m with a time of 6.80 seconds at the ASUN Indoor Championships and was on the KSU 4x400m relay team won the gold with a time of 3:12.59. That time ranks second in ASUN Championship history. He finished the season ranked fifth in the 400m, fifth in the 60m and eighth in the 200m. This is his first ASUN Indoor All-Academic Team Selection.
Rogers has a 3.55 GPA as a graduate student in American studies and rewrote the KSU record book in the weight throw this season. He opened the season winning the weight throw with a personal-best mark of 24.37m (79'11.5"). That mark ranks No. 1 in the NCAA and No. 1 in the ASUN this season. He won the weight throw at the Doc Hale VT Elite meet with a mark of 23.40m (76'9.25"). He finished third in the weight throw at the Music City Challenge and fifth at the USATF Indoor Championships. The Smyrna, Ga. native won the gold medal in the weight throw with a toss of 23.14m (75'11") at the ASUN Indoor Championships. That mark established a new conference championship record. He was fifth in the shot put with a mark of 16.24m (53' 3.5"). His shot put mark of 18.33m (60'1.75") at the Doc Hale VT Meet ranks fourth in the ASUN this season. This is his first ASUN Indoor All-Academic Team Selection.
Hendrick holds a 3.9 GPA having graduated with a degree in nursing in December. She is currently pursuing a second undergraduate degree in psychology. The Kennesaw native won the 800m at the Bob Pollock Meet in a time of 2:03.51 and also finished sixth in the mile. She was victorious in the 800m with a time of 2:02.00 at the BU Scarlet and White Invite. That time ranks No.5 in the NCAA this season. She also was on the Owls DMR team that ran 11:05.14 to finish fourth. That time set a school record. She posted a time of 2:02.92 to win the 800m at the Music Challenge. She won gold medal in the mile at the ASUN Indoor Championships with a personal-best time of 4:41.99 and was on the KSU DMR team that won gold in 11:36.67. It marked KSU's first win in the DMR in program history. This is her third ASUN Indoor All-Academic Selection.
