KENNESAW, Ga. – Starting pitcher
Kenley Hilleary completed another masterful performance in the circle Saturday as Kennesaw State (11-19, 3-2 ASUN Conference) defeated Eastern Kentucky (15-14, 0-5 ASUN) 2-1 inside Bailey Park.
Hilleary (4-6) led the way defensively with her fourth complete game this year, allowing only one hit and one run with 28 batters faced.
Brinaya Bailey and
Stella Henry delivered at the plate for KSU in game two of the series. Bailey went 1-for-2 with a two-run homer while Henry posted a 2-for-3 day with one run scored.
The two squads were locked in a defensive stalemate through the first three innings with only one hit between them and no runs.
Hilleary tallied five strikeouts in the first four innings in the circle. The Colonels' lone hit came in the top of the third inning.
In the bottom of the fourth,
Stella Henry broke through with a hit through the left side. Three at-bats later, first baseman
Brinaya Bailey launched her second homer of 2023 to left field to put KSU up, 2-0.
EKU scored its first run in the top of the sixth to cut the KSU lead to 2-1.
Hilleary recorded the final three outs, including striking out the final batter to earn the win for Kennesaw State.

>> Taylor Cates' sixth-inning sacrifice hit was the eighth of her Owl career, setting the KSU DI career record.

KSU and the Colonels finish off the three-game series Sunday, Mar. 26 at 1:00 p.m. on the KSU Owl Network. The Owls softball team will be signing autographs for fans following the game.
