CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Kennesaw State softball (9-18, 1-2 ASUN Conference) dropped a hard-fought 4-1 game to the Austin Peay Governors (13-10, 2-1 ASUN) at Cathi Maynard Park Sunday.
Infielder
Taylor Cates made her 164th consecutive appearance for KSU in the series finale, surpassing Jessica Cross (2008-12) for the longest streak in Owl Division I history.
Austin Peay struck first, getting two runs in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.
Cates launched her second homer of the weekend in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit to 2-1. It marked the 44th home run of her career, tying Sharon Swanson (2010-13) for second on the KSU Division I career home run list.
The Governors added two runs in the bottom of the sixth to extend their lead to the eventual final score, 4-1.
Starter
Kenley Hilleary (3-5) pitched 4.0 innings allowing only four hits and two earned runs.
Melanie Bennett pitched 2.0 innings of relief with only three hits and one earned run allowed.
GAME NOTES
>> Cates can surpass Cross for the most consecutive starts in Kennesaw State Division I history should she be in the starting lineup Wednesday, Mar. 22 at Georgia.

Kennesaw State's road trip ends Wednesday, Mar. 22 for a midweek showdown in Athens, Ga. against the Georgia Bulldogs. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. on the SEC Network.
