KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State bullpen combined to throw 6.2 scoreless innings as the Owls defeated UAB, 4-3, in game two of the Mike Sansing Classic at Stillwell Stadium. With the win, KSU (7-6) improves to 13-9 in the all-time series with the Blazers (4-11).
John Osbolt made his fourth start on the mound and went 2.1 innings. He allowed three runs and struck out one batter in the outing.
Nick Zegna (2-2) entered out of the bullpen and tossed 5.1 scoreless innings. The right hander struck out six in his first relief appearance of the year. He exited with two outs in the eighth inning.
Miller Riggins faced one batter in the top of the 8th and recorded an out to keep the KSU lead at one run.
Nolan Sliver tossed a clean ninth to earn his second save of the year and seal the win for Kennesaw State.
Mason Jones hit his second home run of the season and put together a 1-for-2 afternoon with a walk and hit by pitch. The KSU catcher blasted a 3-1 pitch over the right field fence to tie the game in the bottom of the third inning.
Zac Corbin added his fifth multi-hit game of the season with a 2-for-4 performance. Corbin drove in one run and scored once in the victory.
Donovan Cash went 2-for-4 and extended his hit streak to three games. Cash has collected a base knock in 10 of KSU's 13 games this season.
Brayden Eidson reached on a base-hit bunt and extended his hitting streak to 14 games dating back to last year. He ended the contest 1-for-2 with a hit by pitch and an RBI.
UAB jumped ahead with one run in the first, but the Owls tied the score with a sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the frame. Corbin ripped a single out of the leadoff spot then advanced to second when
Nick Colina was hit by a pitch. An infield single from Cash loaded the bases for Eidson, who lofted a sac fly to center field that brought home the first Owl of the afternoon.
The Blazers took a 3-1 lead heading into the third, but Jones blasted a two-run shot to tie the score again. Colina led off with a single before the KSU catcher sent a 425 ft. bomb across the street in right field. This was his second long ball of the season and notched the score at 3.
Kennesaw State took its first lead in the bottom of the sixth when Corbin ripped a two-out single to right that brought home
Jackson Chirello. This was the second base knock of the day for the KSU leadoff hitter and extended his hitting streak to three games.
A strong bullpen propelled the Owls to a 4-3 victory and perfect 2-0 record in the inaugural Mike Sansing Classic. Due to the threat of inclement weather, all games scheduled for Sunday have been cancelled.
KSU baseball is back in action next Tuesday, Mar. 14 as the team travels to Georgia Southern for a midweek matchup. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. at J.I. Clements Stadium in Statesboro, Ga.
