Four Owls Named Academic All-District

KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State's Manu Johnsen, Emma Schurfranz, Claire Parsons and Shelby Dennis were all named to the CSC (College Sports Communicators) Academic All-District IV team, it was announced by the national organization on Tuesday. In addition, Johnsen was advanced to the national ballot for Academic All-America honors, which will be announced later this month.
 
Student-athletes must be in at least their second season, hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 and be a starter or important reserve to be eligible for the CSC Academic All-District teams. District IV is made up of schools in Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.

Johnson, a sophomore outside hitter from Copenhagen, Denmark, led the Atlantic Sun with a school-record 4.13 kills per set, and was also first in the ASUN in points (4.64 pps, 2nd-best in KSU history), while ranking 31st and 37th in the nation in both, respectively. She posted 27 kills in a match twice, which was tied for the second most in KSU history, and earned First Team All-Atlantic Sun honors as well. She currently hold a 4.0 cum GPA while majoring in biology.

Schurfranz, a senior right-side hitter from Louisville, Ky., was named both Academic All-ASUN and Second Team All-ASUN after a season in which she ranked second on the Owls in several categories including kills (3.07 kps), points (3.81 pps), hitting percentage (.262), aces (33), solo blocks (12) and was third in total blocks with 75. She graduates from KSU this week with a 3.75 GPA and her degree in marketing.

Parsons, a senior middle blocker from Marietta, Ga., turned in another strong season for the Owls, and ranked 10th in the conference in blocks per set with 0.87. She is set to graduate in Spring of 2024 with a degree in Public Relations, and currently holds a GPA of 3.58.

The fourth Owl to earn academic accolades was Dennis. A Cincinnati, Ohio native, Dennis was the team's defensive specialist and ranked fifth in the league in digs per set at 4.19. She is graduating this week with a 3.60 GPA and a degree in marketing.
