Upset-Minded Owls Set for Matchup in Starkville

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Kennesaw State (3-4) travels to SEC country for the second time this season for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off against RV Mississippi State (8-2) on Monday, Dec. 11 inside Humphrey Coliseum.

Monday's contest follows a newsworthy week for Owl women's basketball, with head coach Octavia Blue signing a contract extension on Dec. 7 through the 2026-27 season and freshman Sophia Rueppell earning Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Week honors on Dec. 4.

The Owls opened the 2023-24 season in Nashville, Tenn. against another SEC opponent, Vanderbilt.

  • Monday marks the first-ever meeting between KSU and Mississippi State.
    • As a player and coach, Coach Blue has never faced the Bulldogs.
  • The Owls' won their last game on Dec. 2 in an 82-25 win over Coastal Georgia - setting a program record for fewest points allowed in a single game and allowed the fewest points in a half (9 - first half) since allowing six in the first half against Northern Kentucky on Feb. 8, 2014.
  • Prencis Harden tallied a career-high 25 points in the Owl victory - the second 20-point game of her career.
  • Rueppell earned Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Week honors on Dec. 4, becoming the sixth Owl to earn the weekly award.
  • Kennesaw State enters the weekend leading the ASUN Conference in scoring defense (57.0) and blocks per game (4.1)
  • During games played from Nov. 27 - Dec. 3, KSU women's basketball was fifth in the country in scoring defense.

  • Senior Kyndall Golden has shined on defense for the Owls in the early part of the 2023-24 season and ranks among the best in the country in the following categories:
    • 19th in blocks per game (2.29)
    • 28th in total blocks (16)
  • Both rank first in the Atlantic Sun.

Coach Blue Extension 2027
  • On Dec. 7, Blue signed a contract extension through the 2026-27 season with KSU.
  • She is the fastest coach in Kennesaw State women's basketball's DI history to 27 wins, shattering the previous mark by 12 games.
  • Since Blue took over in 2021-22, the Owls have the third-most home conference wins of any DI women's basketball program in the state of Georgia (9), tied with UGA and Mercer - and behind only Georgia Southern (11) and Georgia Tech (10).
  • Coach Blue reached 19 home wins on Dec. 2 vs. Coastal Georgia, taking only 32 games to achieve the feat and passing former head coach Agnus Berenato's KSU women's basketball's DI record by six games.
  • The Black and Gold protected the Nest in 2022-23, accruing a 9-4 record inside the friendly confines of the KSU Convocation Center.
  • Last season, KSU WBB doubled its conference win total from five to 10, finishing with a 10-8 record in ASUN play.
  • In her first two seasons at the helm, Coach Blue has secured 24 wins, the second-most by a KSU coach in DI program history in their first two seasons.
  • Of the 14 Owls on the roster, seven are new to the Nest as freshmen or transfers, but for the first time as head coach, Blue's roster is 100% comprised of players brought in by one of her staffs.
  • The 2023-24 season marks the final year of competition for Kennesaw State in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
