ATLANTA -
Sophia Rueppell became the sixth Kennesaw State Owl in program history to earn Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
The freshman made her second and third collegiate starts this week against Chattanooga (Nov. 29) and Coastal Georgia (Dec. 2), respectively. She tallied 18 points this week with six rebounds and recorded the first four blocks of her Owl career.
On Saturday versus Coastal Georgia, the Jacksonville, Fla. native went 5-for-9 with 11 points and a career-high four rebounds in the Owls' 82-25 rout of the Mariners. Against UTC she posted seven points and went 3-for-7 from the floor.
Rueppell is the first Owl to earn the honor since
Bre'Lyn Snipes on Mar. 8, 2021 and joins previous KSU alumni winners of the weekly award: Alexis Poole,
Amani Johnson and
Gillian Piccolino.
She earned a starting role on head coach
Octavia Blue's lineup after a 17-point performance against then-unbeaten Georgia Tech, including an impressive 5-for-8 stat line from beyond the arc.
The award is the first weekly conference honor for Kennesaw State women's basketball this season.
Kennesaw State returns to the court on Monday, Dec. 11 for a 7:30 p.m. ET tip-off at No. 21 Mississippi State on SEC Network Plus.
