KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State men's basketball, playing its fourth straight game away from home, has made the trip down to the Sunshine State for the second time this season as the Owls will take on future Conference USA member Florida International in a 6 p.m. contest on Sunday night in Miami. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
A FEW NOTES
♦ This will be the sixth meeting between the teams, and the Owls are looking for their first win in the series. Sunday's game also concludes an initial two-game contract between the two schools that was originally scheduled to be played in the 2020-21 season but was postponed due to COVID restructuring all NCAA non-conference schedules that season.
♦ Both teams are coming in off heartbreaking losses, as the Owls were stunned at the buzzer on a behind the halfcourt shot in an 85-84 loss in the final game of the ECU Townebank Holiday Classic on Tuesday night. Despite the loss, the Owls posted a 2-1 record in that event and bring a 4-2 record into Sunday's game. A win would mean just the second-ever 5-2 start to the season for KSU.
♦ FIU meanwhile dropped all three games in the Cayman Islands Classic, including a 61-60 loss to Loyola Marymount on Tuesday when the Lions scored the winning basket with four seconds left.
♦ For the first time in school history, the Owls enter the season with a target on their backs, coming off the first-ever winning season in the school's Division I history. KSU finished off 2022-23 with a 26-9 overall mark, shattering the previous record for most wins in a season by 12 (14). The Owls also won the first-ever Atlantic Sun Conference regular season and tournament titles in school history, while reaching the NCAA Tournament for the first time at the Division I level as well.
