ATLANTA - After scoring her second goal of the season,
Aila Swinton earned her first career Atlantic Sun Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
It's the first player of the week the Owls have garnered and the first defender to win the award in the ASUN this season.
Swinton scored her third career goal versus Queens off the header ushering the Owls to a 3-1 win. Both of her goals this season have been game-winners. It's the first time in the D-I era a defender has ended the regular season as the points leader (6). She was able to score in just 55 minutes of action versus the Royals. It was a win that lifted the Owls to the six seed in the ASUN Championship.
The redshirt-sophomore has played a total of 803 minutes this year in her 16 games along with eight starts. She ended the regular season tied for the team lead in goals, the first time a defender has done so in over a decade for the Owls.
Next Time Out
The Owls will take on the seven seeded Austin Peay Governors Thursday evening at 5 p.m. in Fort Myers, Fla. in the first round.
