ATLANTA, Ga. – After recording the longest interception return for a touchdown in school history against Wofford,
Markeith Montgomery was named the ASUN Conference Defensive Player of the Week, announced Monday. The award marks the first ASUN accolade for Montgomery and is the second for KSU on the season.
Montgomery ended the night with four tackles (two solo), one interception and one pass break-up. Late in the first quarter, the senior picked off a pass and returned it 78 yards to set a new school record for longest interception return. The pick marked the sixth of his career and moved Montgomery into third place in the KSU record book for career interceptions.
On the season, Montgomery leads the Owl defense in tackles with 13 total (10 solo). He also has registered one tackle-for-loss and one pass break-up.
Montgomery and the Owls are back in action this weekend as the team travels to Jacksonville State for the program's first ASUN Conference matchup in school history. The Owls are 3-0 in the all-time series with the Gamecocks, including last year's 31-6 victory at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
