KENNESAW, Ga. –  Kennesaw State volleyball closes out its non-conference schedule on Wednesday night with a 7 pm contest in the Convocation Center against the UAB Blazers. The Owls look to keep up their dominance at home, as KSU has yet to lose a set in the Convocation Center this season. This will be the third meeting all-time between the teams and follows last year's 3-2 victory by the Owls in Birmingham. The teams have one common opponent this year, as KSU swept Samford 3-0, while the Bulldogs won at UAB 3-1 on Sept. 4.

It's safe to say that Kennesaw State has at least matched if not surpassed the preseason expectations for the squad after losing several key seniors from the 2021 team. The Owls are currently 6-3, with two of the three losses coming on the road at Power Five schools (Mississippi State, Wake Forest) and the third to future Power Five Houston.

The biggest key for KSU this season has been its overall depth, as a year ago the Owls were led mostly by the same two players on offense. This year is seeing a very balanced attack, while KSU is routinely playing 11-12 players a match.

PLAYERS TO WATCH…
Senior outside hitter
Emma Schurfranz highlights the returnees, as the preseason All-ASUN selection is posting 2.28 kills per set. She's far from the only one shinning though, as
Jasmine Brown currently paces the ASUN in hitting percentage at .386 and is second in blocks at 1.29 bps.
Junior setting
McKinley Ferguson is having an outstanding junior season, ranking fifth in the ASUN in assists (9.76 apg) and tied for second in service aces (0.71 sapg).
Claire Parsons and
Shelby Dennis both also rank among the league leaders in blocks and digs, respectively.

SCOUTING THE BLAZERS...
UAB brings a 4-5 mark into Wednesday night's contest, and six of those first nine games have come on the road for the Blazers, while their only road match so far has been a 3-1 loss at Buffalo. This past weekend, UAB hosted three teams in Birmingham, and dropped five-set matches to both Auburn and Troy while sweeping ASUN member North Florida 3-0.

Fernanda Maida is pacing the squad with 4.08 kps, and is one of three with over 100 kills for the season. Erin Powers is adding 5.14 dps.
