CHARLESTON, S.C. – Kennesaw State quarterback
Xavier Shepherd was named to the watch list for the 2022 College Football Performance Awards FCS National Performer of the Year.
Shepherd was selected as a preseason All-American by HERO Sports and named the ASUN Conference Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. He set KSU single-season records for passing yards (1,341) and passing touchdowns (15) last season. The junior also led the FCS with 23 rushing touchdowns.
38 student-athletes were selected to the list which includes performances from the opening week of the season. Shepherd is one of four ASUN players to earn a spot on the list.
Against Samford on Sept. 1, the Nashville, Tenn. native pushed past 1,000 career rushing yards and 1,500 passing yards. He is currently nine completions away from 100 for his KSU career.
The Owls are off this week but return to the gridiron on Saturday, Sept. 24 for the home opener inside Fifth Third Bank Stadium against Wofford.
