DELAND, Fla. – Kennesaw State freshmen
Hudson Mimbs and
Smith Pinson were crucial in Kennesaw State baseball's 3-2 come-from-behind win over Stetson on Saturday night inside Conrad Park. The Owls (20-9, 9-2 ASUN Conference) aim to complete their third ASUN sweep of the season tomorrow with a 1:00 p.m. first pitch against the Hatters (16-14, 4-7 ASUN).
In a tie game in the eighth inning, Mimbs ripped a ground ball through the right side to give Kennesaw State a 3-2 lead. The freshman finished the night 3-for-4 with one RBI and has drove in six runs in his last six games.
Pinson shined in relief for the KSU pitching staff. The freshman tossed the final four innings and retired all 13 batters faced without allowing a hit. Pinson struck out six en route to his third win on the year.
The KSU offense stayed hot and registered 10 hits in the contest. Â The team has now posted double-digit hits in 17 of its 29 games this season. The offense was spread across four KSU batters who each contributed multi-hit performances.
Down by one in the seventh,
Josh Hatcher stroked a two-out, two-strike, double to tie the game at 2-2. The KSU outfielder extended his hit streak to 24 and his on-base streak to 28. He finished 3-for-5 and registered his 13th multi-hit performance of the year.
The Owls scored in the top of the first when
Donovan Cash ripped a ground ball up the middle to score Hatcher with two outs. With the base knock, Cash has now tallied an RBI in each of his last three appearances. He ended the night 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI.
Zac Corbin also added a multi-hit performance. The sophomore contributed a 2-for-3 night with one walk and a run scored.
The Kennesaw State pitching staff dominated and allowed only three hits on the evening. Two KSU pitchers combined to strikeout a season-high 15 batters.
John Bezdicek made his eighth start on the mound and tied his season-high with nine strikeouts. The southpaw tossed five innings and surrendered only three hits. Bezdicek struck out eight-of-nine Stetson starters.
The Black and Gold compete for the series sweep tomorrow in the final game of its series with Stetson. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Melching Field at Conrad Park.
