DELAND, Fla. – Kennesaw State baseball hit a season-high four home runs en route to an 11-1 victory over Stetson on Friday night at Conrad Park. The win gives the Owls (19-9, 8-2 ASUN Conference) their fifth consecutive series opener.
On the mound,
Jack Myers (3-1) earned his third-straight win. The right-hander tied his season-long with seven innings pitched and allowed only one run. Myers surrendered five hits and registered his fourth quality start on the season.
The Kennesaw State offense slashed 13 hits against Stetson (16-13, 4-6 ASUN) in the victory. The team has now posted 10-or-more hits in 16 of its 28 games thus far. Seven starters recorded at least one hit while five Owls went for two-or-more.
Josh Hatcher wasted no time in extending his hit streak. The centerfielder singled up the middle in his first at-bat to push the streak to 23. He finished the game 2-for-6 with a home run and four RBI. Hatcher has reached base safely with either a hit or a walk in each of the last 27 games.
Cash Young flashed his power with two home runs in tonight's game. The third baseman has homered four times in the last four games. He contributed a 2-for-2 night with three runs and three RBI.
Donovan Cash added his 13th multi-hit performance on the season and went 3-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI. The first baseman holds a nine-game hit streak and has reached base safely in 12 consecutive.
In his second at-bat,
Zac Corbin belted his third home run in the last six games. The outfielder finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored.
KSU broke things open in the second inning.
Nick Hassan singled through the left side to plate the first Owl run.
Nick Colina followed with a walk that loaded the bases. On the fourth pitch of his at-bat, Hatcher laced his second grand slam in seven days off the scoreboard to give KSU an early 5-0 lead.
The long ball continued in the next frame. Corbin sent a full-count pitch out of the park to right field for his third homer of the year. Cash singled to left on the next pitch and then scored on a two-run shot from Young. Â
In the eighth inning,
Makenzie Stills entered the game in relief of Myers. The right-hander allowed zero hits in his two innings of work. Stills struck out one and closed the book on tonight's game.
Kennesaw State baseball is back in action tomorrow for game two of its series with Stetson. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Melching Field at Conrad Park.
