The Kennesaw State softball team goes for the season sweep of the Mercer Bears Wednesday for Student Appreciation Day at Bailey Park.
 
KSU enters the final midweek home contest of 2022 riding a series win over ASUN foe Lipscomb this past weekend. Melanie Bennett pitched 7.0 innings of 3 hit, shutout ball to secure a 7-0 victory for the Owls in the series finale Sunday.
 
Jordan Griffitt and Trey Fowler have the call on the KSU Owl Network YouTube channel with first pitch set for 4:00 p.m.
 
Student Appreciation Day
Kennesaw State students are encouraged to come out and support the Owls against the in-state adversary Wednesday for 'Student Appreciation Day.'
The first 100 students to arrive at Bailey Park and show their Talon Card will receive a 'KSU softball-branded' t-shirt and pizza courtesy of Hungry Howie's.
Fans can participate in 'KSU Softball BINGO' during the game with a chance to win prizes.

Gameday Storylines
>> Taylor Cates leads the team in home runs (11), doubles (9), runs (22), hits (38), batting average (.400), OPS % (1.281), RBI (26), total bases (80), on-base percentage (.439), stolen bases (7) and slugging percentage (.842).
>> Cates also holds the ASUN lead in home runs and slugging percentage.
>> Faith Alexander has 27 hits and 15 RBI in 23 games played this season. She is second on the team in batting average (.333).
>> Pitcher Melanie Bennett has accounted for more than half of KSU's innings pitched this season (102.0 of 198.0) and strikeouts (99 of 158).
>> Freshmen Ty Hardeman is second on the team with 17 runs scored.

A Familiar Foe
The Black and Gold lead the all-time series against Mercer, 13-9, having won the last two meetings.
March 23, 2022 marks the most recent reunion between the in-state rivals, where the Owls took home a 7-6 victory off a go-ahead home run by Pacy Villa. The Owls are 2-0 against the Bears this season.
Wednesday's contest marks the first between the two at Bailey Park since May 7, 2014. KSU won 5-4.

ASUN Rising
The Owls enter 2022 after reaching the ASUN tournament championship game a season ago. KSU was picked to finish second in the conference by coaches from the conference. Taylor Cates, Brinaya Bailey and Melanie Bennett were named to the preseason ASUN All-Conference team.

2021 Rewind
Head coach Tripp MacKay leads the squad after closing out the 2021 campaign in the NCAA Tallahassee Regional, where the program earned its first victory in a Division I NCAA tournament game, defeating the Auburn Tigers 1-0. The Owls also dominated in the ASUN tournament, making it all the way to the ASUN championship game against the Liberty Flames.

On Deck
The Black and Gold head to Lynchburg, Va. this weekend for a three-game series against the Liberty Flames on Saturday, April 9 and Sunday, April 10. The games will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
KSU returns to Bailey Park on Saturday, April 23 for the first two games of a three-game series against Florida Gulf Coast. Fans are encouraged to wear gold and 'Gold Out Gulf Coast' during Saturday's doubleheader.
Admission is free to all 2022 home Kennesaw State softball games.
