FORT MYERS, Fla. – Kennesaw State baseball suffered a walk-off loss at the hands of Florida Gulf Coast by a score of 7-6 on Sunday afternoon inside Swanson Stadium. After today's game, the Owls and Eagles sit tied for first place in the ASUN Conference Eastern Division with 7-2 records.
The Owls (18-9, 7-2 ASUN) entered the ninth inning down, 6-5.
Nick Colina worked a leadoff walk and advanced to third on a base hit from
Josh Hatcher.
Tyler Simon evened the score with a sacrifice fly to left field.
For the second consecutive day, FGCU (20-8, 7-2 ASUN) ended the game in its final at-bat to secure the win. With two outs in the 10th, Stephen Wilmer hit a pinch-hit single to drive in the winning run from second base.
The Kennesaw State offense produced nine hits on the afternoon and were led by Simon who went 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI. The KSU shortstop has now posted 10 multi-hit performances on the season.
Hudson Mimbs continued his hot streak and recorded his fifth consecutive game with two-or-more hits. The second baseman finished 2-for-4 at the plate and has scored at least one run in the last nine contests.
It took until the ninth, but a single through the right-side extended Hatcher's hit streak to 22. The centerfielder registered a 1-for-3 afternoon with two walks. Hatcher has reached base safely with either a hit or a walk in each of the last 26 games.
Smith Pinson shined in relief and tossed a season-long 6.2 innings. The freshman set a new career-high with nine strikeouts and surrendered only two runs. Pinson walked only one batter on the afternoon.
Kennesaw State baseball is back in action Wednesday, Apr. 6 as the team travels to Georgia Southern for an in-state matchup with the Eagles. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. inside J. I. Clements Stadium.
