The final midweek tilt of the 2022 regular season for the Kennesaw State softball team is set for Wednesday, Apr. 27 in the form of an in-state contest against the Georgia State Panthers.

KSU enters the game after taking two of three from the FGCU Eagles at Bailey Park last weekend. The Owls have won seven of their last 12 games played in the state of Georgia.

The two last met during the I-75 Challenge on Feb. 25. KSU walked away victorious after a two-run homer from
Taylor Cates in the bottom of the ninth.

This marks the final non-conference game for the Owls in 2022. The Black and Gold have six more games remaining in the regular season following Wednesday.

Gameday Storylines
>> Taylor Cates leads the team in home runs (14), doubles (11), runs (29), hits (47), batting average (.385), OPS % (1.248), RBI (35), total bases (100), on-base percentage (.428) and slugging percentage (.820).
>> Against GSU on Feb. 25, Cates went 3-for-4 with five RBI and three runs scored.
>> Pitcher
Melanie Bennett has accounted for more than half of KSU's innings pitched this season (146.2 of 256.2) and strikeouts (132 of 195).

Ty Hardeman is second on the team with 23 runs scored.

A Familiar Foe
KSU holds a slight edge in the all-time series, 17-16. The two last met on Feb. 25 in an 8-6 victory for the Owls in the I-75 Challenge.
Four of the last five games at the Bob Heck Softball Complex have gone in favor of Kennesaw State.
The Owls are looking for the first season sweep of the Panthers since the 2018 campaign. Georgia State and the Owls have split the last two season series.

On Deck
The road schedule of the 2022 season concludes Saturday, Apr. 30 and Sunday, May 1 with three-games against divisional foe Stetson. First pitch Saturday is set for 1:00 p.m.
Jacksonville travels to Bailey Park on Friday, May 6 for a three-game set to close out the regular season for the Black and Gold. Senior
Katie Greep will be honored on Senior Day set for May 7.
