ATLANTA, Ga. – Kennesaw State baseball fell to Georgia State 6-5 on Tuesday afternoon at the GSU Baseball Complex. The loss snapped the Owls (22-13, 11-4 ASUN Conference) six-game win streak over the Panthers (24-13, 10-5 Sun Belt Conference).
A wild pitch in the ninth allowed the game-winning run to score from second base. This marked the fourth time this season that KSU has fallen in the bottom of the ninth inning or in extras.
Kennesaw State threw three different pitchers in the contest.
Luke Torbert earned the start and tossed three innings. The right-hander surrendered three runs on six hits during his second start of the year.
Nathan Holler entered in the fourth and went three frames for the Owls. The sophomore allowed two runs on four hits.
Smith Pinson tossed the final 2.2 innings of the ballgame and was pinned with the loss. The freshman right-hander registered a strikeout on six-of-eight outs earned. Pinson allowed three hits and one run.
Offensively, KSU registered eight hits between six players.
Cash Young and
Brayden Eidson were the only two starters that recorded multi-hits.
Young smashed his team-leading 10th home run of the season in the first inning of the ballgame. The third baseman finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Young has homered seven times in his last 11 games.
Eidson added a 2-for-4 afternoon with a double and run scored. The right fielder/left-handed pitcher continues to be the ultimate utility player for Kennesaw State. He has started on the mound, in the outfield and at designated hitter in the last three games.
Josh Hatcher contributed a 1-for-5 performance out of the leadoff spot. The outfielder has reached base safely in each of the last 34 contests.
Tyler Simon,
Donovan Cash and
Spencer Hanson each tallied one hit in the game. Hanson's pinch-hit, two-out single in the eighth tied the game and drove in two Kennesaw State runs.
KSU is back in action tomorrow as the team travels to Auburn for a matchup with the Tigers. First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m. ET inside Plainsman Park.
