KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women's lacrosse team opens ASUN Conference play on Saturday against the Stetson Hatters. The match starts at 12 p.m. and will be available on YouTube.
 
A FEW NOTES
 
» This is the ninth meeting between the Owls and the Hatters in program history. The two teams are currently tied with four wins each. 
 
» Siena Gore is the driving force behind the Owls' scoring production, as the senior midfielder is currently the nation's leading scorer at 58 total goals and first in goals per game (4.83). The Alpharetta, Ga. native is also second in the NCAA in points (70), and fifth in draw controls (8.5 pg)
 
» Gore isn't the only Owl that is shining in 2022. As a team, KSU is currently ranked second in the NCAA in shot percentage (.508) and 12th in free percentage (.519). Their 15.0 goals per game average is also the 20th-highest in the country.
 
» One advantage for Kennesaw State heading into the schedule, the Owls return nine of 11 starters from last year's squad, and a total of 20 overall players. 

SCOUTING THE HATTERS
Attacker Samantha Paglino leads the scoring for the Hatters with 19 goals and 26 total points. Fellow attacker Jessica Duggan has racked up a team-high 10 assists on the season as well. Protecting the net is Kiera McCarthy, who has 53 saves and a .329 save percentage on nine starts this season. 
 
GORE HOLDS NATION'S TOP MARK IN 2022
In what is no surprise for the nation's leading scorer, Siena Gore's nine-goal performances against Butler on March 12 and Presbyterian on March 20 is currently the top mark in the NCAA this season. Those two single-game marks also tie her career high and is the KSU school record as well.
 
OWLS OFF TO SCHOOL-RECORD SETTING START
KSU's impressive start to the year has been one for the record books, as the team's 8-4 record in the first 12 games is the best-ever in the team's 10-year history. The previous best mark after 11 games was in 2017 when the team was 6-5, on the way to an 8-9 season. The team's eight wins are tied for the the most in program history as well.
 
OFFENSIVE PRODUCTION FOR THE OWLS
Graduate transfer McKenzie Jackson has accumulated 18 goals (third-highest on the team) and 22 draw controls so far this season. The attacker was a two-time First-Team All-Sunshine State Conference selection for Embry-Riddle. Ranking second on the squad is senior Chesslyn Lamar who is having a career season, and is currently second on the squad in goals (21) and points (29). She is also tied ninth in the NCAA in free position percentage (.727).
 
HONORS FOR LAMAR
Senior Chessyln Lamar just picked up her first-ever ASUN weekly honor, as she was named Player of the Week on March 29 after coming off the bench against Gardner-Webb to score a career-high four goals on just five total shots.
 
PEARSON PICKS UP ARTHUR ASHE JR. AWARD
Carson Pearson picked up a prestigious honor on Thursday as she was one of 36 student-athletes in the nation to be named an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar recipient, selected by the Diverse: Issues in Higher Education magazine. Pearson was the top sport winner for women's lacrosse, and is the first Owl to receive the honor.
 
NEXT TIME OUT
The Owls will head to Jacksonville, Fla., to play the Jacksonville Dolphins on Saturday, April 9 at 12 p.m.
