Owls Come From Behind to Defeat UNC Asheville

Box Score

ASHEVILLE, N.C. –
The Kennesaw State men's tennis came from behind to defeat UNC Asheville 4-3 at the Asheville Racquet Club on Tuesday.

"This was another good win against a very good UNC Asheville team on the road," Director of Tennis Matt Emery said. "We let our foot off the gas some in singles but I like the way we responded and closed at the end. Huge shoutout to Daniel for believing in himself and coming back from a set and 2-5 down to win and tie the match. Kevin has been so clutch in that position his entire career and he came through again today."

KSU (7-3) won the doubles point and three singles matches to secure the victory.

Raul Garcia and Hugo Salmeron collected a 6-1 victory over Leo Bierbaum and Sira Daosaengsawang to open the doubles. Daniel Botti and Seru Tezuka secured the point for the Owls with a 6-3 win over Jon Brann and Harry Thursfield.

UNCA collected a win on court three to open up singles. Salmeron defeated Daosaengsawang 6-3, 6-4 on court five to give the Owls back the lead. The Bulldogs would pick up a pair of wins on courts one and two and retake the lead. Botti dropped his opening set, trailed in the second set and stormed back to defeat Rafa Serra 5-7, 7-6 (9-7), 6-1. Kevin Patel clinched the KSU victory with a 7-5, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3 over Bruno Serra on court four.

"Shoutout to Coach Pritchard as well," Emery added. "Due to some uncontrollable circumstances with scheduling, he has done a phenomenal job shouldering a large portion of these last two men's matches."

The Owls travel to Norfolk, Va. to take face Old Dominion on Thursday, Mar. 10. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
