BOX SCORE
TROY, Ala. – The Kennesaw State baseball team suffered a 9-6 loss on Sunday afternoon on Troy's Riddle-Pace Field.
The Owls got off to a fiery start in the first inning, as leadoff batter Josh Hatcher got on base with a single through the right side. After Cash Young reached on a fielding error, catcher Nick Hassan brought both runners home with a double down the left-field line.
Senior Tyler Simon sent Hassan to home plate with a hot shot to right field, before Donovan Cash capped a five-run inning with a two-run double that was narrowly missed by a diving Troy center fielder.
The Trojans finally got their third out of the first inning, but Kennesaw State continued its scoring in the second with a Nick Colina sacrifice fly.
Luke Torbert came out of the bullpen in the second inning, inheriting a bases-loaded jam with no outs. The veteran was able to mitigate the situation, allowing only two unearned runs to cross home plate.
Torbert was the workhorse for the visitors on Sunday, pitching four innings of four-hit ball with only two earned runs allowed. The senior would end the day with a team-leading three strikeouts.
Troy put itself back in contention with four runs, split between the second and fifth innings.
The momentum would tip in the host's favor with a five-run bottom of the eighth, carrying the Trojans to a 9-6 victory in the series finale.
The Owls' road trip continues with a midweek visit to Wofford, meeting the Terriers on Wednesday, March 9 in Spartanburg, S.C. at 5 p.m.
