TROY, Ala. – A strong start from
John Bezdicek and a six-run fourth inning propelled Kennesaw State baseball to a 9-4 win on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Owls (8-2) handed the Trojans (6-5) their first home loss in six games this season.
Bezdicek carved in his third start on the year. The Plymoth, Minn. native threw six innings and allowed only one hit to earn the win. The southpaw had a no-hitter broken up on a single in the sixth and retired the first nine batters of the game. Bezdicek finished the day with seven strikeouts and three walks. Â
The KSU lineup finished with 11 hits and had three hitters post multi-hit performances.
Hudson Mimbs led the way going 3-for-5 with a double and run scored. The freshman has registered hits in all seven of his starts this season.
Zac Corbin continued his impressive start with another multi-hit day at the plate. The sophomore finished the afternoon 2-for-5 with a double and one RBI. Corbin has posted six multi-hit games for KSU this season, including one in each of the last four contests.
Cash Young got on base in each at-bat and finished 2-for-2 with a season-high three walks. The third baseman hit a leadoff double in the third inning and came around to score the Owls first run on the afternoon. Young extended his hitting streak to eight games which is currently tops on the team.
The Owls struck first when catcher
Nick Hassan singled up the middle to drive in Young. KSU added one more on a fielder's choice to take an early 2-0 lead.
In the fourth inning, Kennesaw State broke the game open and scored six runs with two outs. The Owls earned three hits in the inning and drew two walks. KSU took advantage of three Trojan errors and extended its lead to 8-0.
Troy chipped back at the Owl lead and scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh before KSU reliever
Jared Rine was called upon to slam the door. Rine threw the final two innings and retired all six batters faced. The junior struck out two and forced three groundouts to secure the KSU victory.
The Owls look to win the series tomorrow in the rubber match. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET at Riddle-Pace Field.
