Box Score
TROY, Ala. – Kennesaw State baseball suffered its first loss in five games as the team fell to Troy 7-2. The Owls recorded seven hits but left seven on base in the team's second loss of the season.
Starting pitcher
Jack Myers carried the game into the sixth inning for the KSU pitching staff and surrendered four hits and three earned runs on the evening. The right-hander forced nine groundouts and punched out two in his third start on the year.
Offensively, Kennesaw State (7-2) was led by
Zac Corbin who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. The outfielder has recorded multi-hits in each of his last three games and has tallied at least one hit in eight-of-nine games this season.
Hudson Mimbs extended his six-game hit streak during his first at-bat of tonight's game. The freshman second baseman blasted a home run deep to left field for the first round-tripper of his collegiate career. Mimbs finished the day 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Troy (6-4) took an early lead in the second inning after a fielder's choice and a double. The Owls executed a perfect relay and delivered a strike to the plate, but the Trojan baserunner slid in just ahead of the tag to make the score to 2-0.
In the top half of the third, the Kennesaw State offense needed only two pitches to respond. Mimbs ripped a no-doubt home run to left field to ignite the KSU dugout and pull the score within one.
Troy added one to its lead in the fourth, but KSU struck back with a run of its own during the next frame.
Nick Colina walked to start the top of the fifth, then
Josh Hatcher chopped a single through the right side. With men on first and third, Corbin reached on an infield single to drive in his seventh run on the year.
Freshman right-hander
Smith Pinson took over for Myers in the sixth inning. The Leesburg, Ga. native retired the first six batters he faced and struck out four in a row.
The Trojan offense pulled away with the game in the bottom of the eighth inning. Troy posted four hits and registered two sacrifice bunts to extend the lead to 7-2.
The Owls look to even the series tomorrow in game two-of-three. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. ET at Riddle-Pace Field.
