KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State's Carson Pearson picked up a prestigious honor on Thursday as she was one of 36 student-athletes in the nation to be named an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar recipient, selected by the Diverse: Issues in Higher Education magazine. Pearson was the top sport winner for women's lacrosse, and is the first Owl in team history to receive the honor.

A total of three male and three female finalists were named overall, and were joined by the other 30 sport winners. The award recognizes outstanding minority young men and women who have distinguished themselves in their academic and athletic pursuits. In addition to their athletic ability, students named Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5, be at least a sophomore academically, and be active on their campuses or in their communities.

Pearson, a senior defender from Johns Creek, Ga., has started in all 12 games for the Owls this season and has been a key part of a defensive effort that has helped KSU post its best-ever start to a season with an 8-4 record, entering Saturday's ASUN Conference opener at Stetson on Saturday, April 2. For the year, Carson has eight caused turnovers to her name along with 18 ground balls.
