The Kennesaw State softball team takes the field for the 2,000th time to kickstart a three-game road ASUN series against the Central Arkansas Bears in Conway, Ark.

The Black and Gold enter the series having won its last two games away from Bailey Park this season and its last three road conference games dating back to 2021.

Pacy Villa has the Owls riding high after hitting a two-run homer against the Mercer Bears on Wednesday to seal a 7-6 victory.

KSU opened ASUN Conference play earlier this month, taking two of three from the Jacksonville State Gamecocks at home.

>> KSU softball has won six of its last nine games this season.
>> Taylor Cates leads the team in home runs (10), doubles (7), runs (21), hits (30), batting average (.405), OPS % (1.351), RBI (21), total bases (67), on-base percentage (.446), stolen bases (6) and slugging percentage (.905).
>> Cates also holds the ASUN lead in home runs and slugging percentage.
>> Faith Alexander has 20 hits and 14 RBI in 16 games played this season. She is second on the team in batting average (.357).

Melanie Bennett has accounted for more than half of KSU's innings pitched this season (82.2 of 154.1) and strikeouts (75 of 116).

A Familiar Foe
This weekend marks the first meeting between the two programs as members of the ASUN Conference.
KSU leads the all-time series, 2-0, with both previous contests stemming from the Southern Mississippi Tournament in February 2011.
The Owls are 8-1 in their last nine conference road games.

ASUN Rising
The Owls enter 2022 after reaching the ASUN tournament championship game a season ago. KSU was picked to finish second in the conference by coaches from the conference.

Melanie Bennett were named to the preseason ASUN All-Conference team.
2021 Rewind
Head coach
Tripp MacKay leads the squad after closing out the 2021 campaign in the NCAA Tallahassee Regional, where the program earned its first victory in a Division I NCAA tournament game, defeating the Auburn Tigers 1-0. The Owls also dominated in the ASUN tournament, making it all the way to the ASUN championship game against the Liberty Flames.
On Deck
The road trip continues for the Owls on Wednesday, March 30 for a rematch against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Atlanta. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra.
KSU returns home on Saturday, April 2 for games one and two of a three-game tilt against the Lipscomb Bisons. The Owls will celebrate Youth Softball Day at Bailey Park during the doubleheader.
