The Kennesaw State softball team hits the road for a midweek in-state showdown with the Mercer Bears.

The two squads met earlier in the season at the JoAnne Graf Classic in Tallahassee, Fla. where the Owls took home an 11-3 run-rule victory.

KSU is coming off a series win against the Jacksonville State Gamecocks to open the 2022 conference schedule.

First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.

Gameday Storylines
>> KSU softball has won four of its last six games this season.
>> Taylor Cates leads the team in home runs (10), doubles (7), runs (21), hits (29), batting average (.403), OPS % (1.347), RBI (21), total bases (66) on-base percentage (.430) and slugging percentage (.917).
>> Cates also holds the ASUN lead in home runs and slugging percentage.
>> Alexander has 19 hits and 12 runs scored in 15 games played this season. She is second on the team in batting average (.373).
>> Pitcher
Melanie Bennett has accounted for more than half of KSU's innings pitched this season (80.1 of 147.1) and strikeouts (74 of 115). She has earned a victory in five of her last six appearances and leads the team with a 4.03 ERA.

Isabella Galloway are tied for most hits among KSU freshmen with 10.
A Familiar Foe
KSU leads the all-time series, 12-9, and has won two of the last three contests.
The Owls are searching for the team's first win against the Bears in Macon since April 25, 2007.
Wednesday's meeting marks the first game in the series hosted by either side since April 9, 2014. KSU walked away with a 5-4 at Bailey Park.
ASUN Rising
The Owls enter 2022 after reaching the ASUN tournament championship game a season ago. KSU was picked to finish second in the conference by coaches from the conference.

Melanie Bennett were named to the preseason ASUN All-Conference team.
2021 Rewind
Head coach
Tripp MacKay leads the squad after closing out the 2021 campaign in the NCAA Tallahassee Regional, where the program earned its first victory in a Division I NCAA tournament game, defeating the Auburn Tigers 1-0. The Owls also dominated in the ASUN tournament, making it all the way to the ASUN championship game against the Liberty Flames.
On Deck
The Black and Gold resume ASUN play on Saturday, March 26 and Sunday, March 27 for a three-game series against the Central Arkansas Bears. First pitch of game one is set for 2:00 p.m. EST Saturday.
KSU returns home on Saturday, April 2 for games one and two of a three-game tilt against the Lipscomb Bisons. The Owls will celebrate Youth Softball Day at Bailey Park during the doubleheader.
