KENNESAW, Ga. – After sweeping the first two games of the series, the Kennesaw State softball team (9-14, 2-1 ASUN Conference) dropped game three against the Jacksonville State Gamecocks (16-11, 1-2 ASUN) Sunday, 1-0.
Melanie Bennett (7-7) got her 11th start of the 2022 campaign and posted nine strikeouts with six coming in the first three frames.
JSU scored the game's only run in the top of the second with two outs.
Owl hitters struggled against stingy JSU pitching, only advancing a runner to second on two occasions and never reaching third.
Bennett was credited with the loss, ending her five-game win streak.
GAME NOTES
>> Alexander pushed her hitting streak out to six consecutive games, the second-longest by an Owl this season (Sales – 7).
>> Four total hits is the lowest single-game mark for the Owls this season since tallying three against No. 8 Arkansas on March 5.
>> JSU held the Black and Gold to its third game of 2022 with no extra-base hits.
ON DECK
The Owls head to Macon, Ga. for a midweek contest against the Mercer Bears on Wednesday, March 23 at 6:00 p.m.
KSU returns to Bailey Park on Saturday, April 2 for a doubleheader against ASUN foe Lipscomb for 'Youth Softball Day.' First pitch of game one is set for 1:00 p.m.
