Owls Douse Flames to Open ASUN Conference Play

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men's tennis defeated No. 68 Liberty 4-1 on Saturday afternoon. The win moved KSU to 1-0 in ASUN Conference play and 9-4 overall.

"Proud of the guys today," Director of Tennis Matt Emory said. "I thought it was a great team effort across the board. Liberty has a pretty good team, so we knew it wouldn't be an easy win today. I'm proud of the guys for stepping up and taking care of business."

The Owls won the doubles point and three singles matches to grab the victory.

Harvey Conway and Raul Garcia picked up a 6-2 win over Thando Longwe-Smit and Omar El Kadi on court three.  Hugo Salmeron and Matthew Terry came from behind to beat Christiaan Worst and Deji Thomas-Smith 6-4 on court one to clinch the point.

Garcia got the Owls on the board first in singles with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Josh Wilson.  Salmeron continued his strong freshman campaign with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Goncalo Ferreira on court six. Liberty would pick up a win to cut the lead to 3-1.  Terry doused the Flames chances of a further comeback defeating Nicaise Muambe 6-3, 7-5 to clinch the win for the Owls.

KSU will host Bellarmine on Sunday, March 20 at 2 p.m.
