COACH OCTAVIA BLUE QUOTESÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â
On the team's fouls…
"It was the story tonight. I can say I haven't been in that position all season long to have three of my starters foul out of the game. Defensively, I think we struggled to keep them in front of us, not foul, and just play a little more disciplined. I don't know that we've ever fouled a 3-point shooter twice as they made the bucket as well."
On the play of Bre'Lyn Snipes…
"Bre'Lyn [Snipes] had been out for a while so she's still trying to find her mojo in terms of her conditioning and everything. Really happy with what she brought tonight and I really think that's the level from her we're going to see every single game."
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a quiet start to the afternoon, with both defenses working hard to keep the offenses off the board.
Going into the first media timeout, only 10 points had been scored; the Colonels led the Owls 6-4 with 6:22 played in the first quarter.
A
Jah'Che Whitfield 3-pointer and an
Amani Johnson layup ended the quarter well for Kennesaw State, and the Owls went into the second quarter with a 14-13 lead.
The second quarter parted the clouds for the teams' offense, with the Owls taking the advantage in a 13-6 run to start the period.
Leading by eight points at the second quarter media timeout,
Ashley Free drove to the bucket to give her squad its first double-digit lead of the day at 29-19.
Capturing their biggest lead with two
Prencis Harden free throws, Kennesaw State allowed two EKU buckets in the final minute of the half to cut the advantage to 33-26 at halftime.
The Colonels would dominate the Owls in the third quarter, keeping the team to four-of-13 from the field and outscoring the visitors 20-10.
The fourth quarter was more of the same, until it seemed that a
Gillian Piccolino trey gave KSU life with 1:44 left in the contest; however, the five-point deficit as the remaining time played out and Kennesaw State got back on the bus after a 68-58 loss to Eastern Kentucky.
