KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State bats were on fire today as the team swept Fairfield in a Saturday doubleheader. With the wins, the Owls improve to 7-1 for the program's best start since transitioning to Division I in 2007.
"That was a good test for us," said KSU head coach
Ryan Coe. "That is a really good team with good experience. We found a way to win each game and I couldn't be prouder of our guys."
The Kennesaw State offense recorded 25 hits on the day, including a season-high 14 in game two of the doubleheader.
"You never know what to expect coming into a spring,"Â continued Coe "But what I had hoped for, is exactly what our team has done."

Game One: KSU 4 – FAIR 3
John Bezdicek shined in his second start of the season. The senior southpaw tossed five strong innings and surrendered only four hits. Bezdicek allowed one earned run and recorded a season-high nine strikeouts.
The Owls' bullen bent but did not break through the final four innings of play.
Luke Torbert and
Nathan Holler carried the pitching staff to the ninth before
Luke Cooper slammed the door to earn his first save on the season. The lefty retired the side in order to give KSU its third consecutive win.
The Kennesaw State (6-1) offense stayed hot against the Stags (2-3) and tallied 11 hits in the contest. This marked the fourth time in seven games the team recorded 10 or more hits.
With the game locked at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth,
Zac Corbin ripped a ground ball up the middle to score two and give the Owls their first lead of the day.
Nick Hassan followed suit, slashing a two-strike double to left-center field to extend KSU's lead to 4-1.
Senior
Josh Hatcher set the table at the top of the lineup. The outfielder went 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Corbin also posted multi-hits for the third time this season, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored.
Hassan extended his hit streak to seven games dating back to last season. The sophomore catcher finished 1-for-4 with a double and one RBI. The KSU backstop is currently second on the team with three extra-base hits.
The Stags chipped back in the eighth and pushed two runs across, but Cooper worked a clean ninth inning to secure the KSU win. At 6-1, KSU baseball is off to its best start since the 2011 season. Â

Game Two: KSU 9 – FAIR 1 (7 innings)
KSU starter
Connor Housley registered a quality start and worked four strong innings on the mound. The University of Tennessee transfer struck out four and allowed only one earned run against a tough Fairfield lineup.
The game was tied 1-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. Hatcher doubled to lead off the frame before
Cash Young launched his third home run of the year to give KSU a 3-1 advantage. The Owls proceeded to rip five more hits in the inning and score seven runs to break the game open.
The KSU (7-1) offense barreled a season-high 14 hits off the Fairfield (2-4) pitching staff. Kennesaw State finished with seven of its nine starters recording multi-hits. This was the fifth time in eight games the offense posted at least 10 hits.
Hatcher continued his stellar weekend, going 2-for-4 in the final game of the series. The Mississippi State transfer went 6-for-12 with two doubles in the three-game set.
Corbin posted another multi-hit performance for his fourth on the year. The outfielder went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored. The switch-hitter finished the weekend 5-for-9 with four RBI. Â
Brayden Eidson relieved Housley in the fifth and worked two scoreless innings to earn the win. The lefty struck out one and allowed only one hit.
Freshman
Miller Riggins was called on in the seventh to end the game. The southpaw retired the side to seal the win for Kennesaw State.
The Black and Gold return to action this weekend as the Owls take on the Troy Trojans in a three-game series to begin on Friday night. First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m. ET in Troy, Ala.
