KSU Head Coach Brian Bohannon Inks Contract Extension Through 2026

2/22/2022 2:46:00 PM

KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State University is excited to announce a three-year contract extension for Kennesaw State football head coach Brian Bohannon. His contract now runs through the 2026 season.

In 2021, Bohannon led Kennesaw State to its third Big South Conference title and fourth appearance in the FCS Playoffs. He was named the Big South Coach of the Year for the third time this past season and won 63 games over KSU's first seven seasons, tied for most in Big South history.

"Coach Bohannon has done an outstanding job starting, building, and sustaining a championship-caliber football program," said Director of Athletics Milton Overton. "Owl Nation and I are excited to begin a new era of Owl football in the ASUN Conference with Coach Bohannon at the helm representing the 'Gold Standard of Excellence' Kennesaw State University expects and deserves. The national landscape of collegiate sports may change, but our mission will always remain consistent for KSU Athletics to 'Build champions on the field, in the classroom and in life with academic integrity and excellence'."

He was named the first head football coach in Kennesaw State history on March 24, 2013.

"I am proud to continue building on the culture and winning tradition we have established here at Kennesaw State. Thank you to our administration, namely President Kat Schwaig and Milton Overton, for their continued commitment to Kennesaw State Athletics and our program," Bohannon said. "I look forward to seeing the ongoing impact Kennesaw State University is making for students and our community."

Bohannon is 63-18 as the architect of Kennesaw State football, the most successful start-up in college football history. No team had more wins in its first five seasons than Kennesaw State with 48 victories. The Owls enter 2022 having won 49 of their last 58 games and have been ranked in one of the two FCS polls for 58 consecutive weeks.

"Coach Bohannon has worked tirelessly to build and lead a football program that has consistently competed at the highest levels and secured three Big South Conference championships since 2015," said Kennesaw State Interim President Kat Schwaig. "His commitment to our student-athletes, the community and the university has been critical to the continued success of the program. I join all of Owl Nation in congratulating Coach Bohannon and look forward to cheering the team on this fall in Fifth Third Bank Stadium."
