KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State used strong starting pitching and big innings on offense to sweep Morehead State Saturday at Stillwell Stadium. With a pair of seven-inning victories, KSU (3-0) will look for a four-game sweep of MSU (0-3) Sunday.
Â
Game One
Â
John Bezdicek (1-0) pitched a shutout in his Kennesaw State debut as the Owls downed Morehead State, 4-0, in game one of the doubleheader.
Â
The southpaw collected seven strikeouts over four innings. He surrendered just one hit and had two walks to earn the win in the seven-inning affair.
Â
He dealt a clean first inning, including freezing three-hole hitter Ashton Roy on a beautiful breaking ball. The Southwest Minnesota State transfer followed that with a pair of punch-outs in the second.
Â
KSU broke the board first with a three-run third inning.
Hudson Mimbs reached on a one-out walk, and
Josh Hatcher started the first of three extra-base knocks. His double to left field placed two in scoring position.
Â
Then,
Cash Young produced an RBI groundout to plate Mimbs.
Zac Corbin and
Nick Hassan followed with back-to-back RBI hits, a triple and double, respectively, to give KSU a 3-0 lead.

KSU chased out Morehead State starter Joe Rotkis (0-1) in the fourth. The Eagle righty finished with four earned runs off five hits over 3.1 innings. He had two walks and one strikeout.
Â
Andrew Crumbley entered to face Hatcher with the bags full in the fourth and induced an RBI groundout of Hatcher.
Â
Smith Pinson entered to pitch in the fifth and struck out the side. The freshman from Leesburg, Ga. worked three innings to pick up the save in his debut. He allowed just one hit, a walk, and totaled five strikeouts to shutout the Eagles.

Â
Luke Torbert helped complete the Saturday sweep with four shutout innings. Torbert (1-0) gave up just two hits while walking four and also striking out four.
Â
He escaped a jam in the fourth with two in scoring position. The right-hander got a hot grounder to Young at third, who then threw-out Feltner at the plate to preserve the shutout. Torbert ended the frame by striking out Nick Gooden swinging on three pitches.
Â
Zac Corbin put the Owls ahead in the first with an RBI single.
Â
In the second, KSU brought the power with a
Spencer Hanson double to plate
Nick Colina, and then
Mason Jones smacked a two-run blast to right in his first at-bat as an Owl.
