THE STORYLINE
The Kennesaw State women's basketball team fell 67-59 at FAU Friday night at the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena. KSU forced 20 turnovers, including 15 in the first half but FAU's three-point shooting proved too much to overcome for the Owls. Amani Johnson and Lyndsey Whilby paced the Owls with 10 points each to lead the KSU offense.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Kennesaw State jumped out to a 15-8 lead behind five points from Johnson. The Owls opened the contest shooting 7-of-14 from the floor and forced seven FAU turnovers in the first seven minutes.
After both teams traded baskets over the final two minutes and the beginning of the second quarter, Jah'Che Whitfield and Prencis Harden knocked down back-to-back layups to extend KSU's lead to six, 23-17, with 6:05 remaining.
FAU answered with a 5-0 run over the next minute to cut the Kennesaw State lead, 23-22.
Carly Hooks provided a spark off the bench, scoring four of the Owls' next six points to push the lead back to six, 29-23, with just under four minutes left in the half.
Florida Atlantic closed the half on a 10-5 run behind a pair of three-pointers from Sofia Galeron as KSU held on to a 34-33 lead at the break.
FAU scored the first 12 points in the opening five minutes of the third quarter to retake the lead, 43-34.
Each time Kennesaw State tried to make a run, Florida Atlantic responded with an answer and pushed the lead to double-digits, 50-39, with 2:33 left in the third.
KSU finished the quarter by scoring four straight points to get within seven, 50-43.
Kennesaw State opened the final frame on a 7-2 run, highlighted by a Gillian Piccolino three-pointer to pull within two, 52-50, with 6:39 left in the contest. However, that would be as close as KSU would get as FAU finished the game on a 15-9 run to secure the 67-59 victory.
