KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State men's basketball hopes to bounce back from its tough road loss at VCU this past weekend, as the Owls will travel down I-75 for an in-state battle at Mercer on Friday at 7 pm in Hawkins Arena. This will be the 20th all-time meeting between the former ASUN rivals, and KSU is looking to snap a 10-game losing streak to the Bears. In last year's contest, Mercer barely escaped the Convocation Center with a win, as Spencer Rodgers' layup attempt at the buzzer to send the game to overtime was just off the mark. Friday's contest will be streamed live on ESPN+.
A FEW NOTES
♦ This is the fifth straight of a seven-game stretch away from home for the Owls. KSU began by winning two-of-three in the Appalachian State MTE, including a 72-68 win over the host Mountaineers. That win not only gave KSU its best-ever start in Division I play (4-1), but gave the Owls national attention, as for the first time in program history they received votes in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll.
♦ In its most recent action, the Owls led VCU in Richmond for the first 38 minutes of the game, until free throw shooting came back to haunt KSU in an eventual 64-61 setback.
♦ The Owls have high hopes entering the season, as they return all five starters from last year's squad that set new program highs for both NET and KenPom rankings while coming just one win short of matching the school's Division I win record.
♦ KSU features four new scholarship players this season, highlighted by freshman Simeon Cottle of College Park, Ga., and Temple transfer Quincy Ademokoya.
