ATLANTA, Ga. – Gabriel Benyard was selected as the ASUN Conference Special Teams Player of the Week after his performance against Charleston Southern, the conference announced Monday. The award marks the first ASUN weekly accolade for Benyard and sixth for KSU this season.
The KSU return man was difficult to tackle last Saturday, as he compiled a school-record 117 punt return yards on four attempts. Benyard also added one kickoff return for 29 yards, before the Buccaneers elected to stop kicking it in his direction.
While on offense, the Ocilla, Ga. native collected a team-high 61 receiving yards on two receptions. Midway through the second quarter, he connected with quarterback
Xavier Shepherd for a 37-yard catch to score his first receiving touchdown of the season.
Kennesaw State football hits the road next Saturday for a non-conference matchup at No. 15 Tennessee Martin. The contest will be the first in series history between the Owls and Skyhawks, with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m. ET inside Hardy M. Graham Stadium.
