A FEW NOTES
♦ It's a tough challenge awaiting the Owls on Monday, as not only are the Flames the preseason favorites, KSU is 0-7 all-time against Liberty. They did play LU close last year though, as in three games against the eventual champions, one was a six-point road loss while the eighth-seeded Owls fell by 10 in the quarterfinals of the 2021 ASUN Tournament.
♦ KSU will be focused on limiting Liberty senior guard Darius McGhee, who comes into Monday as the nation's third-leading scorer at 22.9 points per game. The Owls are looking to get back to their defensive play from two weeks ago, in which they held four straight opponents to 60 points or less, before allowing an average of 71.5 ppg over the past four, three of which were losses.
♦ Monday is a big game for both teams in the ASUN East race. A win for Liberty gives them almost a three-game lead in the standings, while a win for the Owls keeps them in the race for a first-round bye.
♦ The returning experience from last season is paying off on the offensive side for KSU, as the Owls' 75.5 ppg average is ahead of the current school record of 75.0 ppg, set in the 2016-17 season.
♦ KSU played a challenging non-conference schedule this season, which currently ranks as the 31st-toughest non-conference schedule in the nation. The Owls' eight non-conference losses came at the hands of Iowa State, Creighton, Belmont, Wake Forest, Mercer, Wofford, Samford and Nebraska. Those eight schools have a combined 99-56 record (through Jan. 25), while ISU is ranked 23rd in the AP Top 25.
