The Kennesaw State women's soccer team hopes to make it three wins in a row against ASUN returners Jacksonville State, facing off against the Gamecocks Sunday afternoon in Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
Securing the 150th win of his career and opening up the Owls' conference account with his biggest win of the season, head coach Benji Walton hopes to build on all the success that his team has accumulated in the past week.
Classy Clarke
Midfielder Ebony Clarke returned to the side after three weeks out, and she made her presence known with aplomb.
A throw-in on the right side found the Canadian international, who turned and put her laces through the ball from 25 yards out. The surging shot opened the scoring in the 36th minute after it found the upper-right corner of the net, leaving the Lions' goalkeeper helpless.
The sophomore was sent through on goal by Jenna Vollrath, and was faced with a one-on-one battle against the North Alabama goalie. Clarke made it look easy, rounding the keeper for the 63rd-minute slot in.
The Wrath of Vollrath
The former ASUN All-Freshman made her return to the squad against Wofford and her performance was rewarded with a spot in the starting 11.
The senior from Cumming, Ga. was industrious with the ball, constantly beating defenders to progress the team up the pitch.
Along with her assist on the Clarke goal, she played an over-the-top ball to right-winger Caeden Price. Price's cross from the right side was scored by striker Kendall Higgs, giving Vollrath the secondary assist.
Defensive Delight
The 3-0 result against North Alabama marks the first clean sheet of the KSU campaign.
The central defense pairing of Erin Miller and Hayley Dekker have been incredibly dependable for Walton this season.
Miller has been putting a shift in on both defense and offense; the junior has read the game expertly while scoring some set piece goals as well.
Dekker has been Walton's workhorse, playing all but six minutes this fall.
Next Match
The Owls hit the road for the first time in nearly a month, traveling to Conway, Ark. to face off against Central Arkansas on Thursday, Sept. 30 at 8 p.m.
