KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State volleyball opens ASUN play this weekend with divisional crossover action in Jacksonville, Ala., on the campus of Jacksonville State. The Owls will start off against North Alabama on Friday at 1 pm, before taking on Central Arkansas Saturday at 4 pm and closing out against the host JSU Gamecocks Sunday with a 6 pm start. The Owls finished non-conference play at 6-5, which included wins over Alabama and one the road at UAB, Samford and Furman.
Players To Watch
Super senior
Lauren Chastang has done it all this season, as despite limited by injuries for several games earlier this season, is one of three players with over 100 kills with 128 while averaging 3.05 per set. She holds a .218 hitting percentage and leads the team in aces with 19 and double-doubles (5). Having a great season as well is junior Emma Schufranz with 143 kills (3.4 per set) and a team-high .243 hitting percentage. Senior
Bri Becerra meanwhile is posting a team-high 3.43 digs per game.
Scouting the Lions
North Alabama brings a 6-7 mark into Friday's ASUN opener, though half of the Lions wins have come in the past four games, two against Alabama A&M with another against South Carolina State. Common opponents between the two teams, KSU defeated Furman 3-1 a week ago while UNA dropped its season opener 3-1 to Furman in Wilmington, N.C. Leading the team this season is Katy Floyd, is averaging 2.46 kills per game and also has a team-high 21 service aces.
Scouting the Sugar Bears
Central Arkansas opens its inaugural ASUN schedule this weekend, though it iwll be a tough task for the team that has won just twice in nine games and at one point lost four straight 3-0 contests. UCA is paced by Lexi Miller, who is boasting a 3.11 kills per game average.
Scouting the Gamecocks
Jacksonville State has put together a strong start to the season with a 10-3 mark, including 8-0 on its home court. The Gamecocks have won six of their past eight agmes, with the two losses coming to Top-25 competition in Purdue and Tennessee. Lena Kindermann has almost double the number of kills (149) as her next closest teammate, as she is averaging 3.63 per game while boasting a .329 hitting percentage.
