Benji Walton and Kennesaw State women's soccer squad are in good spirits after Thursday's 2-1 win against the College of Charleston and look to continue building on that energy with a Sunday night match against Samford.

The win in Charleston, S.C. was a night of many firsts for the Owls. Beside the overtime victory being the team's first win of the season, seniors Kathryn Schreck and Lexi Labonte scored the first goals of their KSU careers.

Schreck established the initial Owl lead with her set-piece expertise on an indirect free kick and Labonte snatched the win in overtime after pouncing on her own rebound.

Last Time vs. Samford
Kennesaw State soccer has struggled against Samford historically, winning three of 10 games in this fixture.

It's been a while since these two teams have last met, with the Owls dropping a 2-0 result nearly three years ago in Birmingham, Ala.; however, the last time the Owls hosted the Bulldogs, they chiseled out a 1-0 win.

Five current Owls featured in the squad's last game against Samford, including Sydney Sauer and Jenna Vollrath who were both included in the starting-eleven on Sep. 13, 2018.

Scouting the Bulldogs
Samford is also coming off its first win of its campaign, defeating the UAB team who won against the Owls the Sunday before.

Junior forward Taylor Yount scored on a header in the 15th minute, before senior midfielder Alyssa Frazier extended the Bulldog lead with a strike from outside of the box in the 29th minute. Mary Raymond played the role of playmaker on the day, assisting both goals.

The Blazers came back into the game with an 82nd-minute goal, but Samford was able to neutralize the chance of any further damage.

Next Match
After Sunday's game, the Owls fly down Interstate-75 to challenge the Georgia State Panthers.
