After getting their first goal out of the way, the Kennesaw State soccer team hopes to capture its first win as it visits the College of Charleston for a Thursday evening game at the Patriots Point Athletic Complex.
Kennesaw State dropped its first two games, one an unlucky 1-0 result against Charlotte and the other, a 2-1 battle against UAB.
In the 69th minute of Sunday's game against the Blazers, junior forward
Erin Miller scored the first goal of the 2021 fall season and the first goal of her collegiate career.
It all came from a customary
Kathryn Schreck corner that was curled into a dangerous area. It was headed down by
Macie Rainwater into the feet of
Camryn Simmons. The defender was able to toe-poke it toward goal, forcing a smart save from the UAB keeper; however, the save was pushed right into the path of Miller, who intelligently cushioned a shot into the back of the Blazers' net. The junior has already accumulated more minutes than she had in the previous two seasons, so Miller will be hoping to score plenty more goals for
Benji Walton's side.
Breon Grant had another impressive performance off the bench for Kennesaw State, using clever flicks and turns to progress her squad higher up the pitch. The Englishwoman was the catalyst for a huge momentum shift toward Kennesaw State's direction in the later stages of the match.
Dylan Pixton was inspirational in her performance on Sunday. The Floridian read the game expertly, sprinting out of her box to clear multiple chances for the Birmingham, Ala. team. The redshirt junior recorded seven saves, outdoing her UAB counterpart by six stops.
The Owls are looking for their sixth win out of seven games against College of Charleston. The last fixture between the two resulted in a 1-0 win for Kennesaw State, with 2019 Freshman of the Year
Becky Contreras scoring the winning goal on Aug. 29, 2019.
