LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Kennesaw State baseball team lost its fourth straight game in a 4-1 affair with Liberty on Sunday afternoon in the Liberty Baseball Stadium.
The Flames (33-11, 17-1) scored four unanswered runs for the third and final time of the series, while the Owls (26-17, 12-6) were unable to plate a run until the eighth inning.
The defense was solid on the night; the team did not give any free bases on errors and flashed the glove on multiple plays. After Liberty put their leadoff hitter on base with a first-inning single, a hard hit ball made its way to first base. Nick Hassan showed off his vertical with an impressive catch, quickly tagging first base for the unassisted double play. Terence Norman then laid out for the diving catch for the final out of the third inning.
KSU's lone run came from a Tyler Tolve single up the middle for the backstop's 42nd RBI of the season. Jake Coro scored on the play with two outs, but the Owls were unable to get anything else going.
Potentially meeting the Lynchburg, Va. team again in the postseason, the Owls will close out their regular season next weekend against Liberty in the Stillwell Stadium. The team will memorialize longtime benefactor Fred Stillwell on Friday, May 14, after the KSU Hall of Famer passed away on Feb. 13. The organization will then honor the team's seniors on Saturday, May 15.
