KENNESAW, Ga. - The Kennesaw State baseball team took a moment to remember the benevolence of benefactor and Stillwell Stadium namesake Fred Stillwell before a 3-1 loss to Liberty on Friday evening.
The matchup began as another battle between the two best pitchers the ASUN Conference has to offer: Jake Rice for the Owls (26-18, 12-7) and Trevor Delaite for the Flames (34-11, 18-1).
The KSU ace allowed two runs on only four hits before being relieved by Brison Finney in the sixth inning. Finney had a stellar outing, allowing only one hit while striking out two batters in his two frames of work.
The Owls were finally able to get something going in the seventh inning after two straight singles from Jesse Sherrill and Tyler Tolve, the latter of which extended the backstop's hitting streak to 10 games. After an Alex Carballo sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third base, right fielder Terence Norman plated Sherrill on a fielder's choice play.
The home team found it difficult to muster anything else, as Delaite closed out his complete game with a 3-1 scoreline.
The Kennesaw State baseball team moves on to Saturday afternoon, when the team will honor their 14 departing seniors before the 2 p.m. game.
