KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State softball team fought till the very end before falling to Liberty 5-4 in the 2021 ASUN Softball Championship on Saturday afternoon.
The Flames got on the board early in the first inning after a KSU throwing error.
The Owls responded in kind plating a run off a similar error by Liberty to tie the game up 1-1.
In the bottom of the fourth inning the Flames took the lead again thanks to a solo shot over the left field fence from Denay Griffin.
Liberty extended its lead in the bottom of the fifth inning after an RBI double to right center field followed by an RBI single to make it 4-1.
KSU made it interesting in the top of the sixth inning after three-run blast over the left center field fence from
Taylor Cates tied the game 4-4.
The Flames took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning behind a sacrifice fly, holding the Owls at bay in the seventh to down KSU 5-4.

Taylor Cates each earned a spot on the ASUN All-Tournament Team after their efforts in all four games of the tournament.
Notable Stats
- Taylor Cates tallied her 15th home run and 41st RBI of the season.
- With one stolen base in today's game, Faith Alexander remained a perfect 13-for-13 stolen base attempts this year.
