KENNESAW, Ga. – After dropping its opening game to Liberty Friday afternoon, the Kennesaw State softball team bounced back to advance to the 2021 ASUN Softball Championship with a 5-1 victory over the Dolphins at Bailey Park.
Game 1 | Liberty 4, Kennesaw State 1
After two scoreless frames, the Flames took a 1-0 lead thanks to a solo shot over the right field wall from Autumn Bishop.
KSU looked to respond in the top of the fourth inning with a leadoff single up the middle from
Lexi Solorzano, but the LU defense held strong to keep the Owls off the board.
Liberty extended its lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning after an RBI double down the right field line. The Flames would get two more runners on, but the Owls closed the door to limit the damage.
In the bottom of the fifth inning the Flames added two insurance runs after a single to left field and a sacrifice fly.
The Owls got on the board late thanks to a solo shot over the center field fence from
Katie Greep but the attempted rally wouldn't be enough as KSU fell 4-1 to LU.
Lindsey Kyte (5-6) suffered the loss after 3.2 inning of work giving up two runs on six hits while striking out three.
Emily Kirby (15-5) picked up the win after tossing a complete game, giving up one run on four hits while striking out two.

KSU started quick with a two-run double down the left field line from
Taylor Cates that scored
Brea Dickey and
Lexi Solorzano in the first inning.
The Owls doubled their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning thanks to a two-run blast over the left field fence from Solorzano to make it 4-0.
KSU added an insurance run after an RBI double to right field from
Christen Florence scored
Faith Alexander to extend the Owls' lead to 5-0.
The Dolphins erased the shutout with a solo shot over the center field fence in the seventh inning, but the Owls' defense held strong to secure a 5-1 victory.
Melanie Bennett (19-10) secured the win tossing a complete game, allowing only one run on five hits while striking out six.
Alyssa Bilodeau (14-9) suffered the loss after 6.0 innings of work, giving up five runs on 11 hits.
