Marissa Gore Headlines Academic Awards As Scholar of the Year

KENNESAW, Ga. –
For the second straight year Marissa and Siena Gore represented the Kennesaw State lacrosse team on the ASUN's All-Academic Team with Marissa Gore named the conference's Scholar Athlete of the Year the league announced Thursday.
 
"I am thrilled the ASUN has chosen to recognize Marissa's academic achievements," said Head Coach Laura Maness. "Her being named the recipient of the prestigious SPCEET Outstanding Student award within KSU's engineering program was such an amazing achievement in itself. It is remarkable what she has accomplished as a student-athlete here and I am so proud of her. I wish her the best of luck in her career as I know she will continue to accomplish great things!"
 
The 2021 Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SPCEET) Outstanding Undergraduate Student of the Year, Marissa Gore maintained a perfect 4.00 GPA as an Electrical Engineering major. She interned with the Lockheed Martin Aerospace Company this year and will go on to join its Avionics Division following her graduation this week.
 
"Marissa is very deserving of this recognition," said Assistant Athletics Director for SASS Dr. Randy Kennedy. "She has put so much work into lacrosse as well as her academics over the past four years. Not only has she graduated with a perfect GPA, but she was also named as the SPCEET College as the Engineering Student of the Year. To win these accolades speaks to her tremendous work ethic in the classroom as well as on the field. I am very proud of her accomplishments!"
 
A 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District selection, Marissa Gore excelled in the classroom as well as the lacrosse field earning ASUN Co-Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference accolades this season. The Alpharetta, Ga., native ranked among the ASUN's top-five in nearly every category, ranking second in the conference for both caused turnovers (21) and assists (20). She finished the season with 30 goals, 67 draw controls, 34 ground balls and 51 total points.
 
Joining her sister on the all-academic squad, Siena Gore also earned a perfect 4.00 GPA while majoring in Industrial Engineering Technology. Both Siena and Marissa are now two of three Owls in program history to earn multiple ASUN All-Academic Team honors.
 
Siena Gore set the standard in the classroom and on the field this year earning her third straight First Team All-ASUN award. She dominated on the attack leading the ASUN and ranked sixth in the NCAA for total goals with 67. Her 4.79 goals per game average set a new KSU single-season record while ranking third in the nation. Her 33 total free position goals and 2.36 per game average this season leads the nation.
 
Siena Gore is the only player in the conference to record over 70 points on the year to rank 20th in the country with 75 total points, a mark that ranks second in the KSU single-season record book. Her 76 total draw controls led the league while also ranked among the conference's top-5 for both caused turnovers (4th) and ground balls (5th).
