KENNESAW, Ga. – Liberty claimed a doubleheader sweep of Kennesaw State, winning two complete-game shutouts on Saturday

Game 1: Liberty 5, Kennesaw State 0
After three scoreless frames, Liberty opened scoring with two runs in the top of the fourth inning thanks to a two-run double to left center field from Autumn Bishop to give the Flames a 2-0 lead.
Liberty extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the fifth inning after a solo shot from Emily Sweat.
The Flames added two insurance runs in the top of the sixth inning and went on to a 5-0 victory over KSU. Karlie Keeney (14-4) tossed a five-hit shutout after going all 7.0 innings and striking out one.
Melanie Bennett (16-10) suffered the loss after 6.0 innings of work while striking out three.
Lindsey Kyte was effective in relief, tossing the final inning allowing no runs, no hits while striking out one.
Brea Dickey and
Katie Greep each recorded a double in the opening game.
Game 2: Liberty 1, Kennesaw State 0
After nothing doing for either side through the first frame, the Flames would take a 1-0 lead after an Owls error.
KSU looked to respond in the bottom of the third, fifth, and sixth innings after a pair of singles from
Christen Florence and a single to third base from
Faith Alexander but Liberty's defense was able to close the door and clinch the three-game series.
Emily Kirby (11-4) collected the win after tossing a complete game, giving up four hits while striking out nine.
Peyton Elzey (2-8) suffered the loss after 7.0 inning of work, giving up one run on five hits.
Next Up
The Owls and the Flames wrap up their three-game series on Sunday with a 2 p.m. contest at Bailey Park. Nine Owls will be honored for Senior Day prior to first pitch.
